About Specs SA

Specs-SA is a collection of independent specification databases covering cars, boats, quad bikes, UTVs, snow blowers, and other mechanical equipment. The network was created and is maintained by Maarten Kronberger, a South African IT specialist and building contractor with over 35 years of real-world experience working with vehicles, machinery, and technical systems.

Maarten’s interest in vehicles started at an early age in a family where working on cars, tractors, and mechanical equipment was part of daily life. By the age of 10 he was already able to drive farm machinery, and over the years he has owned and worked on many types of vehicles including cars, quad bikes, boats, and utility equipment.

He has worked in the motor industry and technical fields, including time spent with Unitrans Motors, and has done development and technical work for automotive and vehicle related companies including Toyota, Nissan, Seat, Kilokor Motors, Lazarus Auto, MotoMedia, and RidezSA. He has also completed several system integrations involving TransUnion vehicle data.

Why these specification databases exist

These websites started as personal research projects and grew into public reference databases. The goal of Specs-SA is to preserve accurate technical specifications and make it easier for enthusiasts, buyers, mechanics, and researchers to compare models and find reliable information.

  • Collect and preserve vehicle specifications
  • Make comparison between models easier
  • Help buyers make informed decisions
  • Share technical knowledge with enthusiasts

How specification data is collected

Most specifications published on this network are manually researched and entered from manufacturer websites, brochures, workshop manuals, dealer information, and historical specification sheets. All data is reviewed before publishing.

Some older vehicle specifications, particularly car data, were originally supplied by the late owner of DiskDrive, to whom credit is given for his contribution to preserving historical vehicle data.

Specifications may vary by market, model year, or trim level, and users should confirm critical information with the manufacturer or dealer.

Editorial policy

All content on the Specs-SA network is created manually. No automated scraping tools are used to generate specification pages. Each page is reviewed before publishing, and corrections are made when better information becomes available.

Because many databases include older and discontinued models, updates are ongoing as new information is found.
